Initiatives and Partnerships

World Spirit Consulting is working with a new organization, Little Free Library International, to bring quality books to neighborhoods and communities worldwide. The concept was conceived in 2009 in Wisconsin by entrepreneurial, socially minded Todd Bol of Hudson and Rick Brooks of Madison.

The idea? To build miniature "libraries" (4 ft. x 4 ft. structures mounted on a sturdy pole base), stock them with general and themed books (adult, teen and children's nonfiction and fiction and/or special focus on topics such as parenting, health and fitness, money management, nature, etc.), and through sales and contributions, have them installed in neighborhoods, business districts, near schools, parks or wherever people pass by or congregate.

Books are shared and taken freely with no expectation to provide or return books.

Nearly every little library is unique, some have a simple rustic look and others are specially commissioned art pieces worthy of display in a museum. Each library in the network has a volunteer steward, and display a numbered sign. The "Pay It Forward" fund allows those who want to build their own library the opportunity to contribute towards the support of literacy efforts worldwide.

WSC is leading the development of LFLI by working with the founders to create a strong nonprofit organization with the staff and volunteer capacity to grow with the interest and demand. To find out more and how you can get involved, go to www.littlefreelibrary.org.
